A Dunmore Summer, Organized Around One Corner

Look at a national events aggregator and Dunmore's summer reads like a list of unrelated concerts, a couple of trails, and a handful of restaurants. That is not how the summer actually works if you live here. From the second Sunday in June through the second Sunday in September, the borough has a fixed weekly anchor, and most of the good decisions about food, walks, and Sunday evenings orbit that anchor within a walkable radius.

The claim of this post is simple. If you already live in Dunmore, you do not need a plan for the summer. You need one recurring appointment, and the rest of the week fills in around it.

The Sunday Anchor at Dunmore Corners

The Bucktown Musicfest is back for its 2026 season, running Sunday nights at 5:00 PM at the corner of Blakely Street and Drinker Street from June 14 through September 13. Two acts per night, free, outdoors, in the middle of the borough. Here is what the schedule actually looks like:

Two things worth flagging for residents who have not looked at the schedule closely yet. First, August 16 is designated Family Night, which is the one to circle if you want the kids to burn energy on a Sunday and still be home by dark. Second, September 6 moves off the Corners and into Buddy Clarke's Tavern, so if you show up at Blakely and Drinker that night expecting a stage, you will find an empty intersection.

The Wade Preston Billy Joel tribute on August 23 is the one that will pull the biggest crowd from outside the borough. Park early or walk.

Two Blocks Off the Corner, a New Breakfast

The most useful recent change to Dunmore's daily texture is not a restaurant that opens at dinner. It is Henry's on Clay, which held its grand opening in April 2026 at the corner of Clay Avenue and Green Ridge Street. Sisters Ellen and Lizzie Sallusti opened it after years of talking about running their own place. The reason it matters for a Sunday routine is geography: coffee and a bite in the morning, a walk or an errand in the afternoon, and you are already a short drive from Dunmore Corners for the 5:00 show.

Before Henry's, the honest answer to "where do I grab a sit-down breakfast in Dunmore" tended to involve Kuzzins Cafe, Ruddy's Landmark Cafe, or a drive. The neighborhood now has one more option that leans a little more contemporary, and the room fills up on weekend mornings in a way that suggests it will still be there next summer.

The Walk You Can Do Before Dinner

The Dunmore Reservoir #1 Nature Trail is the walk everyone in the borough should know cold. It is a 1.2 to 1.5 mile loop around an 83-acre reservoir owned by Pennsylvania American Water, with parking off Tigue Street, benches made from cleared deadwood, and stepping stones across Little Roaring Brook. AllTrails clocks the loop at about 25 to 30 minutes at a normal pace, with only 68 feet of elevation gain. It is dawn to dusk, open to residents and their dogs, and you are expected to clean up after them.

A few specifics that separate the trail from the generic description you will find on a tourism page:

• The dam offers the best photo on the loop, especially in late light.
• Shoreline fishing is permitted with a valid Pennsylvania fishing license.
• The trail is not consistently blazed. Where it is, look for yellow placards on the trees.
• The path was built through the volunteer work of Karl Wegforth and the Dunmore Historical Society, and a section is dedicated to Jonathan K. Wentline and Joseph Guarnieri. Not a fact you need to know, but the kind of context that makes the bench you are sitting on feel less anonymous.

Thirty minutes at the reservoir, then a five to ten minute drive back into the borough, gets you to a dinner table by 6:30. That is a real Saturday if you want one.

When You Want the Harder Version

Starting from the same Dunmore Reservoir #1 parking area, the Top of the World Loop is the trail people drive up from Scranton for. It is roughly 3.9 to 4.2 miles depending on which map you trust, with about 708 feet of gain, and it climbs through the Dunmore Pine Barrens to a rocky summit with a wide open view. AllTrails users rate it 4.5 stars across more than 2,000 reviews, which is unusual for a trail this close to a small borough.

Two cautions worth knowing before you send someone up there:

The route traverses private property and easements. Staying on the designated path is what keeps this area open. The trail is also shared with off-road vehicles, quads, and dirt bikes, so it is not a quiet forest walk in the way the reservoir loop is.

If you have out-of-town guests who want a real hike and a view, this is the one. If you want a quiet weeknight loop before the sun drops, take the reservoir.

Where Residents Actually Eat

You already know most of these. The point is which one to pick on which night.

• The Loading Dock Bar & Grill. The default for a group. Reliable, casual, easy to get a table midweek, harder on a Friday. If you have people visiting, this is the one they will ask to go back to.
• Angelo's Italian Ristorante. Old-guard Italian, the kind of place you take a parent. Order the scratch-made pasta.
• Picciocchi's Pasta. Smaller, quieter, the one you send someone to when they want to feel like they found something. Cash on the mind if you check the reviews.
• Henry's on Clay. Best for breakfast or a Saturday coffee stop, not a dinner destination. Use it accordingly.
• Backyard Ale House. Wing and clam night on Wednesdays is a real thing residents circle. Beer program deeper than the room suggests.
• The Bistro. When you want a slower dinner without driving into Scranton.

Two names outside the borough worth knowing because they show up in every Dunmore delivery order: ECHO Restaurant on Northern Boulevard in Clarks Summit and DeMuro's Pizza. Neither is Dunmore proper, but both are on the shortlist of what actually gets ordered at 7:00 PM on a Tuesday.

Reading the Calendar Like a Local

Put the three pieces together and Dunmore's summer week has a shape. Sunday at 5:00 is the Corners. Saturday morning is Henry's, then thirty minutes at the reservoir, then dinner at whichever of the six restaurants above matches your energy. Weekday evenings between June and August are the window when the reservoir trail is emptiest, roughly the hour before sunset. Save Top of the World for a Saturday with real time on your hands, and for guests who are actually going to walk it.

The mistake outsiders make is treating each of these as a separate errand. The mistake residents make is forgetting that the fixed Sunday anchor exists at all and defaulting to a drive to Scranton. Blakely and Drinker is a two-minute drive from most of the borough. Use it.
